課程概述

Is climate changing? Can human activities explain these changes? Is climate change a significant problem? How would our Earth respond to these changes? In order to answer these questions, we need to understand the Earth processes that drive climate variabilities from the distant past to today.

In this class, we will cover physical/chemical/biological processes that are fundamental for climate changes. We will review the climate changes over short and long time scale, understand climate drivers and feedbacks. We will also consider the implications of climate change for the global environment and humans.

Intended to be accessible to students not concentrating in science or engineering. Students in climate change studies will get an integrative view on climate changes.

課程目標
Students will learn the fundamentals of climate changes, understand Earth’s climate as an integrative system, be able to differentiate climate forcings and feedbacks.

Students will practice how to access big data set, evaluate complicated questions, and articulate scientific views.

課程要求
Students are required to attend lectures, participate in-class discussions, read required materials, complete home project, and turn in final report.

Students need to take calculus prior to taking this course.
